Devil's Food Cake with Buttercream Frosting

Equipment

  • 1 9x13" pan or 2 - 9" round pans

Ingredients
  

Batter

  • 2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 c cocoa
  • 1/2 c hot water
  • 3/4 c butter
  • 1.5 c sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 c buttermilk

Butter Cream Frosting

  • 3/4 c butter room temp
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 5 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

Batter

  • Mix flour, baking soda, salt and cocoa in a small bowl and set aside.
  • Mix hot water, butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk in large mixing bowl.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture and mix until well blended.
  • Grease and flour two 9" round pans or 1 - 9x13" pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out dry.

Frosting

  • Mix until creamy and spread over cooled cake.
